Human Resources

Having achieved significant career success at an early age, Nicky decided to return to education in order to facilitate a career to change to Human Resources. Nicky took time out of the hectic work-world to study and relocated to Thailand. Here she continued to feed her scuba-diving passion as she studied by correspondence. After completing a Bachelor of Human Resources and Labour Relations (distinction), Nicky managed to secure employment with Marriott Hotels in the United Kingdom. After a short spell as an HR Manager, Nicky then moved to the largest hotel company in the world - Intercontinental Hotels Group as an Area HR & Development Manager, representing seven properties in East Anglia and the South East of England. Nicky's ambition is to eventually secure employment in a location that facilitates daily scuba-diving and offers countless hours of sunshine.

Diving Friends

In 2006 while in Cozumel, I met a group of awesome divers while staying at Scuba Club Cozumel. They adopted my friend Cathy and I, and saved our vacation. We now dive with the group and consider group members as friends. Easy going people, all different personalities but all great people! www.scuba-challenge.com Check out the dive trips planned for 2007/8.

Hotel & Resort Management Expertise

Nicky Todd lives in Parksville, British Columbia on Vancouver Island, part of Canada's breathtakingly rugged west coast. Excelling in all aspects of hotel and resort management, Todd reached her initial career goal at the age of 29. Picked up by Sandman Hotels, Inns and Suites following a year with Forte Hotels in London, England, Sandman recognized Todd's exceptional leadership potential and recruited her without hesitation.

Initially employed as the opening Sales & Marketing Manager for a newly constructed corporate hotel in Langley, British Columbia, after only 8 months and significant revenues, Todd was offered the opportunity of a lifetime by Sandman's President, Taj Kassam - an opening GM position.

Charged with the responsibiltity of opening a newly constructed hotel in remote Grande Prairie, northern Alberta, Todd passionately led her team to achieve Head Office's agressive revenue goals in both the opening year and first full year of operations before moving to Calgary, Alberta. Her insistance on providing 4 star service and unwaivering attention to every detail won significant local recognition and a reputation in the chain to this day of still having her "fingerprints all over the hotel."

After moving to Calgary in 2000, Todd took on a role as Director of Client Revenue Development and Marketing for VIP International Corporation, third largest reservation services and technology provider (GDS and onward distribution) in the world. Challenged with organizing the team into a revenue driving force, despite the downturned economy of 9-11, VIP's reservation volumes increased significantly over the previous year. During her time with VIP, Todd was also a key player in the acquisition of a UK based company of a smaller scale. Her role was to successfully integrate the new clients and educate them about VIP's winning revenue driving strategies, thus retaining their business. Armed with marketing materials and education packages, Todd met with clients and secured business relationships in Poland, France, Cyprus, Ireland and the UK.

It was during her employment with VIP International (now owned by TravelCLICK), that Todd's childhood passion for travel was reignited. Other countries she has visited include Egypt, USA, Bonaire, Mexico, Africa, Australia, Thailand, Greece and Saudi Arabia. Her interests take her to locations where she can dive and/or immerse herself in local cultures that provide life changing experiences and a deeper understanding of people.

Todd now works for Aviawest Resorts (www.aviawest.com) as the group's Director of Operations. She is based at the company's flagship property in Nanoose Bay at Pacific Shores Resort & Spa, and can be contacted at
